about
What is a cilice? It's an uncomfortable shirt made of hair used for penitential purposes in the old days of religion. Using this idea, we took a trip back to those more primitive days to combine the grisly premise with that of the hairy ol' moonlight beast: the lycanthrope, the howling lunatic...the werewolf. What begins as a shedding of human inhibitions ends as a cursed lament.
We wanted to release this song just in time for spooky season, so enjoy the fruits of the first track with all band members gracing your ear holes.
Thanks for listening.
lyrics
Clouds atop the twisted spires
part the sky
and impress upon the weary spine
a pulse of life.
Those who call it cursed are short of sight.
Some kind of feeling
has taken me over
as silver midnight revives.
Shedding the fleece
of all calm and composure,
oh, what big eyes have I.
The aura of a spirit riled
by ancient rite
will dress the king of dusk tonight
in robes of light.
The out of favor quake beneath his ire.
Some kind of feeling
has taken me over
as silver midnight revives.
Shedding the fleece
of all calm and composure,
oh, what big eyes have I.
Ever wonder when the thrill of it is over,
how to make it from the mountain in the snow?
I don't remember how it fell upon my shoulders
what I'd do better to be carrying alone.
Well they tell me
I will fear it when I'm older
I believe it
I believed it all along.
This cilice is mine to wear in the full moon
cover the soul beneath the hide.
The skin of the lamb for a wolf needing clothing
is safe in the glare of holy light.
